The National Resistance Movement has received a donation of 20 Yamaha motorcycles worth sh100m, to facilitate the coordination of its activities.

Nile fishing company, the official distributors of Yamaha products in Uganda made the donation during the NRM secretary general, Justine Lumumba’s tour recently.

“This is out of gratitude for the help we have received from the NRM since we started business seven years ago, and the peace it has provided since coming into power in 1986,” said Christopher Saazi, the managing director.

“As business people, we would like to see the country continue gain more economic growth and stability, and we are convinced that this can be done under the NRM leadership” he added.

Saazi said that under the guidance of government, the company has rapidly grown for the last three years and currently employs more than 3,500 youth around the country.

He said close to 1,000 of the youth are manning its $8m (sh 30b) assembling plant in Banda, which currently produces more than 400 motor bikes a month.

He also said the company has, with the help of government, secured land in Namanve to construct an ultra-modern assembling plant expected to cost more than $20m (sh73.2b) which will be commissioned in 2020.

“Our investment is big and we cannot get out of the market now. The best we can do is to ensure that we continue to support government, because it has also supported us in times of great need,” he said.

Lumumba said the donation is a gesture of confidence in the good leadership and governance by the NRM government over the last 29 years it has been in power.

“If you trust us with your votes, we shall ensure that there is better service delivery, peace and economic prosperity all over the country for the next five years,” she said.

She added that the donation will go a long way in redeeming party expenditures, especially in places where transport expenses are too high.
