Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II will attend mass led by Pope Francis in Namugongo on November 28.

The Katikkiro, Peter Mayiga revealed that the Kabaka has already confirmed that he will attend the mass.

“We have already put in place the people in charge. We want to make sure that everything is well organised,” he said.

The Katikkiro also urged all Mengo officials to participate in the papal Walk scheduled for tomorrow, October 31.

The walk is organized by Vision Group aimed at fundraising for the reconstruction of Namugongo and Munyonyo matyrs' shrines, ahead of Pope Francis' visit to Uganda on November 27.

Addressing the Buganda Kingdom Lukiiko on Monday, Mayiga said he was ready to lead the walk.

“I urge all people in Mengo to join me for the cause because I am the Chief Walker. Buganda Kingdom is very significant in all these things because religion started in Buganda before spreading to other parts of the country,” he said.

Over 5000 people are expected to take part.

According to the programme,  walkers are expected to start assembling at Kololo airstrip at 6.00am.

Those driving will leave their vehicles at Kololo. After the walk, buses and taxis will be available in Namugongo to ferry them back at a cost of sh1,000.

The 13.3km walk will start from Namugongo, through Nakawa, turn off to Mbuya and then to Kinawataka, to Kireka, Kyaliwajala and end at Namugongo.
