The bankers' fraternity has honoured Professor Ddumba Sentamu, vice chancellor Makerere University with honorary fellowship

The bankers' fraternity has honoured Professor Ddumba Sentamu, vice chancellor Makerere University with honorary fellowship.


The bankers, among other things, recognized Sentamu for steering the industry through higher education in different capacities.

This was during Friday's annual bankers' dinner organized jointly by Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services (UIBFS) and Uganda Bankers' Association (UBA) at the Sheraton hotel's Rwenzori ballroom.
   
Fabian Kasi, chairman UBA described Ddumba as an asset in nurturing graduates in the industry and expressed his appreciation to the academia.

Kasi noted that while banks were grappling with the current global economic challenges, he was pleased to report that the industry continues to be resilient.

18 other senior bankers won professional accolades in recognition for professional and academic achievements presided over by governor Bank of Uganda, Emmanuel Mutebile.

In a key note speech, Mutebile thanked bankers for encouraging professional growth, saying it is the right direction towards developing further the industry. He advised the accolade winners to ensure the accolades translate in working in a more professional manner.

The awards of UIBF fellow went to Jane Aik, acting CEO of UIBFS; Peter Kalangwa of Housing Finance bank; Joseph Lutwama of Centenary bank; Fred Kinene of National Social Security Fund (NSSF), Anthony Mulindwa of Stanbic bank and George Ochom of dfcu bank.

Eight other bankers attained the award of UIBF Associates while Joram Kahenano from Federation of Uganda Institute of Bankers (FUIB) received the life membership award due to his distinguished services.

Afrigo band crowned the dinner with a performance of their old school tracks which left most bankers nodding rhythmically to the songs.
