OVER 10 candidates have been barred from the NRM party primaries scheduled for Monday.

This comes after the party’s legal committee wrapped up investigations into all the 300 petitions that were filed by the aspirants with many having academic related issues and failing to resign among others.

The party lawyer Mubarak Kalungi says that the party’s electoral commission has this time decided to withhold the names of the new candidates to have been nullified to protect their public image adding that over 30 candidates have also voluntarily withdrawn from the primaries.

These among others include the lands minister Aidah Nantaba, Serunjogi Geoffrey who has withdrawn from the Mawogola South race and Dr. Nabbale Lugudde from the Buikwe seat.

“There are those we don’t want to embarrass and are not going to participate in the primaries,” Kalungi said.

He added that the committee is set to embark on investigating over 500 petitions that have risen from the just recently concluded structural and party elections.
