Contractors with a history of poor performance shall not have fresh projects, Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) executive director, Allen Kagina, has said.

“We have got to separate ourselves from mediocre work,” Kagina told a meeting of development partners on Wednesday morning.

Presenting a paper titled: legacy at URA and challenges at UNRA, Kagina defended the on-going restructuring in the roads authority saying change is good.

“In the interim, few things will slow down due to checks on corruption, but work will not be halted. Procurement is one of the most scrutinised departments in UNRA. We're having a fresh recruitment there,” she said.

Kagina said that they want to build local capacity of local contractors and be given space to operate.

UNRA governing body appointed eight new directors in the new restructuring process.

The three out of the eight are former senior management staff of Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) who worked under Kagina before she was appointed UNRA boss.
