Kyambogo University Volleyball team coach Nicholas Obeke insists that he was disciplining his players who defied the rules of the team during the Bishop Stuart University Volleyball Open tournament in Mbarara last month.

This followed a sickening video that went viral on social media last Friday in which a sports coach, that was late identified to
be Obeke, was seen slapping students inside a hall.

In the video, that left many Ugandans shocked, Obeke could be heard asking; ‘Isaac, what did I say when we were at campus? before
slapping the student and then asking ‘what did I say’? before slapping the student again.’

‘What did I communicate, you think I am stupid? he says before throwing more slaps.’

Four students were slapped in the clip that runs for one minute and 44 seconds.

But Obeke told New Vision on Sunday that: “Parents entrusted me with their children and we made it clear before leaving that any player who can’t afford staying without beers, clubbing and sex should stay back.”

“When we reached Mbarara, I was angered when I found out that these boys and girls escaped from camp and went drinking even before the tournament ended,”

A University administrator George Wagogo who is said to have travelled with the team denied being aware of the video or whatever transpired.

However, a female University lecturer, who preferred anonymity condemned the act. “This is unacceptable,” she stated.
