MUBS optimistic, Kyambogo still hopeful

MUBS coach Charles Ayiekoh is confident his team will keep their 2-1 lead and dump Kyambogo University after return leg of the Nile Special University Football League quarterfinal match at the Maroons stadium, Luzira on Thursday.
Ayiekoh said that the reigning champions would rely on their previous record against Kyambogo to overcome their rivals as they nurse ambitions to become the first side in four years to defend the UFL title.
“Kyambogo is a very stubborn and tricky team. But I have told my boys to be focused and deliver a good result that will take us to the semi-finals and thereafter to the final,” Ayiekoh said.
MUBS and Kyambogo have met four times previously and the former has always won, including last year’s final that they won 1-0 to lift the trophy.
MUBS can even afford a 1-0 loss today but still progress to the semis.
But Kyambogo coach Deo Serwadda insists that his boys learnt from their mistakes in the first leg and warned MUBS against early celebrations.
In yesterday’s action, Uganda Martyrs’ University, Nkozi, made it to the semifinals with a 4-1 aggregate against Uganda Christian University, Mukono.
Nkozi won 2-1 on Wednesday, building on a similar first leg score.
