Jinja Secondary School defeated St. Lawrence High School Creamland 14-12 in an entertaining final of the Rugby Schools Independence tournament at Kyadondo Rugby club on Independence Day.

Jinja Secondary School won the tournament that attracted 12 teams minus the traditional schools – Namilyango College School, St. Mary's College School (SMACK), Kings College Budo, Hana Secondary School and 2014 champions Kololo Secondary School.

In the Plate Cup final, Oxford High School, Mbale smashed Green Hill Academy 35-10 to win their maiden trophy of the Independence Cup.

The one-day tournament, sponsored by Rwenzori Water, also saw St. Lawrence Creamland team B defeat Mengo Secondary School 10-0 to lift the Bowl trophy of the event.

Uganda Schools Rugby Association Chairman, Valence Bizimana, urged schools to start preparing for next year's national Super 8 Rugby League because he will be promoting them to play in the Super League next year.

Bizimana attributed the low turn up to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) briefing of students on the UCE (O’Level) exams.
