Pope''s visit: Museveni tours martyrs'' shrines

Oct 04, 2015

President Yoweri Museveni checks out construction progress at the Uganda martyrs'' Catholic and Anglican shrines.

Uganda is readying for the coming of Pope Francis this November. He will become the third pope to visit Uganda after Pope Paul VI in 1969 and Pope John Paul II in 1993.

Francis will be in Uganda to mark the 50th anniversary of Pope Paul VI's canonisation during the first visit by a pontiff to Africa of 22 Catholic martyrs -- converts to Christianity who were executed in the 19th century.

Ahead his very much-anticipated visit, preparations are underway in various parts of the capital to welcome the leader of the world's Catholics. Notable of these are the works going on at the martyrs' shrines. On Saturday, President Yoweri Museveni took a tour of the Catholic and Anglican shrines and checked out the progress of the construction at the two sites. Take a look . . .
