US to train UPDF doctors

UDPF medical team will also be equipped with skills to carry out general surgery and deal with trauma, especially during peacekeeping mission related work in Somalia under AMISOM

A team from the U.S army is in Uganda to train medical personnel from the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF).

 

According to a statement from the U.S embassy in Kampala, the combined training dubbed Medical Readiness Training Exercise (MEDRETE) is meant to build and strengthen medical treatment capability and capacity of medical professional in both militaries.

 

UDPF medical team will also be equipped with skills to carry out general surgery and deal with trauma, especially during peacekeeping mission related work in Somalia under AMISOM.

 

Scott H. DeLisi, the U.S Ambassador to Uganda said that the training that will be conducted in Jinja from September 14-25 will strengthen the relationship between U.S and Uganda, a cooperation that will increase stability and security across the continent.

 

“We are committed to strengthening all aspects of our relationship with Uganda. This exercise is part of a broader series of military-to-military activities that demonstrate the strong partnership between the U.S. and our African partners,” he said.

 

DeLisi added: “Our increased cooperation with African counterparts, Uganda included, enhances mutual understanding and increases stability and security across the continent.”
