NIC kept their National Netball League title campaign alive with victories against rivals Prisons and Police.

The 16-times title holders started with a hard-fought victory against rivals Prisons in a clash that ended 40-35 at Namboole on Saturday.

Rachael Nanyonga, who took part in the World Cup in Sydney, steered the insurance side from a two-goal chase to an early 10-6 lead in the first quarter.

Later coach Vincent Kiwanuka substituted Stella Oyella with Peace Proscovia who worked closely with Nanyonga to extend NIC's lead to 19-14 at half time. Both Oyella and Proscovia also featured prominently at the global competition in Australia.

The tense game intensified in the third quarter with Prisons taking full control following quick changes after coach Imelda Nyongesa brought on Dorothy Tabia and Stella Nanfuka replacing Juliet Nakafero but the changes did little to shake the solid insurance girls.

All the wardresses could do was to narrow the margin to a five-goal gulf by the final whistle.

NIC later returned for their second game on the day's card, beating Police with a slightly similar margin in a game that ended 43-38 at the same venue to remain unbeaten with 18 points in nine games.

Meanwhile Prisons stays second on the league table with 16 points after putting up a vengeful encounter to beat KCCA 39-32 and recover from their earlier loss.
