The public has been urged to honour road sign posts and avoid stealing them as they help to avert accidents.

Standard Chartered Bank, Acting Head of Corporate Affairs, Cynthia Mpanga made the appeal on Monday at a press briefing where the bank announced a sh5m package towards the Road Safety campaign.

Mpanga said that Sports federations and personalities have been urged to contribute towards the success of the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) Road Safety campaign that kicks off on Tuesdayw with a memorial service at Christ The King Church Kampala at 10am.

"As we join USPA in fighting road accidents, Sports federations and sports celebrities should join this noble cause because they have a role to play in the community, "Mpanga stated.

She also appealed to the authorities especially the police to handle well the people who help accident victims.

"Many times we have lost lives just because people fear to help because of the attitude of the authorities," Mpanga added.

USPA president Sabiiti Muwanga lauded the bank for the support and assured her that USPA is committed towards transparency and accountability of all funds received.

USPA on Saturday will celebrate 14 years since its executive members, Francis Batte Jr, Kenneth Matovu, Leo Kabunga and Simon Peter Ekarot perished in a road accident in Lugazi.
