Ndejje University’s community sports development programme has rolled off with the delivery of 160 balls to coaches.

The project meant to engage youth in sports was launched in March with the training of community coaches by US based sports organisation Coaches Across Continents.

US car giant General Motors offered a donation of 460 training balls under the Chevrolet brand ‘One World Play Project’ community outreach.

The offer is part of the General Motors community social responsibility global sports programme.

Handing over the balls to coaches, MAC East Africa country manager Tim Mwambire pledged continued support for the project. MAC are representatives of General Motors in the region.

While presiding over at the hand over, Ndejje University Vice Chancellor Professor Eriabu Lugujjo who was flanked by the university Sports tutor Paul Mark Kayongo urged coaches to put the balls in proper use.

“Sport is a catalyst that accelerates the process of education. Through sport we teach people how to live together,” he said.

Lugujjo also underscored the importance of youth to be involved in sport. “You must exercise your bodies. If you don’t your energy will be channeled activities

The programme co-coordinator John Bosco Kaddu said the project was initiated out of the need to promote the well-being of people in the community.

The coaches drawn from community, schools, UPDF and religious institutions from all regions of the country inculcate life good values in their respective communities.
