Sports Club Villa presidential aspirant Emmanuel Ben Misagga is once again unopposed after his only opponent in the race, Dennis Mbidde, has technically been ruled out of the exercise due at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, on July 26.

Mbidde failed to pay the sh10m commitment fee, which is mandatory for the club’s presidential candidates, before contesting the office. The deadline to deposit the money was last Friday but Mbidde hinted Tuesday that his camp was negotiating an arrangement with Misagga.

According to him, he would still pay the sh10m fee but still negotiate with the Misagga camp so he (Mbidde) becomes the new SC Villa president.

“Whether it is withdrawing or merging with Misagga, the information is still scanty for you to publish. Yes I did not pay the money (sh10m) but I’m going to do it not because I have to contest but for the love of Villa,” Mbidde explained yesterday.

In a separate interview Misagga explained that his camp was due to reach an agreement with Mbidde to pave way for himself to go through unopposed on Sunday.

“I have a meeting with Mbidde to discuss a possibility of blending our ideas. I’m going to tell him to take up the post of vice president so that we can work together,” Misagga said.

Last month, Mohammed Bazirengedde, Mbidde and Misagga declared interests to contest the position of SC Villa presidency but had to pay sh10m commitment fee. Bazirengedde has since withdrawn and is rallying behind Misagga.

In 2008, Misagga was again unopposed but the polls flopped at the last hour after club ‘elders’ said they were not impressed with the election procedure.
