Cranes head coach Micho Sredojevic hopes to pick the team that will face Mauritania on Saturday after the friendly against Malawi at Namboole stadium today.
A 25 man Malawi contingent jetted in on Saturday night and booked at Grand Global Hotel in preparation for today’s clash.
Micho has described the match as the final phase of the Cranes preparation that should give him a picture of the team that will play the AFCON qualifier against Mauritania on Saturday.
Uganda won their earlier build up match against Seychelles 1-0.
The Serb will be out to fine tune his team’s pace especially up front after the wing play of Joseph Ochaya and Nicholas Wadada were slow in the previous game.
South Africa based striker Geoffrey Massa arrived so that he could be tested during the friendly.
Goalkeeper Denis Onyango had to delay his arrival to spend at least a day with his newly born son and is expected today. Team captain Andy Mwesigwa, Godfrey Walusimbi, Geoffrey Kizito, Moses Oloya and Luwagga Kizito will all be available for the friendly.
But FUFA have failed to get midfielder Mike Azira because the Major League side Seattle Sounders FC inisists that the match with Malawi is not on a FIFA date.
Malawi face Benin for their nations cup qualifier.
U-17 side set
Meanwhile Uganda Cubs (U-17) head coach Matia Lule is concentrating on his players speed as he fine tunes for the second round of the Africa Nations Championship qualifier against Rwanda at Namboole on Saturday.
Lule has added Airtel Rising Stars MVP striker Stephen Okot, top scorer Willy Ocen and best defender of the tournament Diego Katumba to boost the team.
The trio join Akram Kizito from Kibuli Secondary and Hassan Ssenyonjo from Aspire youth programme in Qatar. “We are ready for Rwanda and I can tell you the new boys are catching up impressively. We hope to take them for MRI scan (Magnetic resonance imaging to ascertain age) today so that they are available for selection,” Lule said after yesterday’s training at Njeru Technical Centre near Jinja.
