EVERYTHING went according to plan for Charity skipper Jonathan Sebanja when his side faced Tornado in the UCA National League Division 1 at Kyambogo on Sunday.

Everything, that is, until Charity came in to bat in the second half of a match regarded as crucial in the title race.

Charity, much to Sebanja’s pre-match wishes, had restricted Tornado to a low score – 179/10 in 49 overs. Viraj Patel took 3/26 in 10 overs to set Charity on the path to a win that would have seen them replace Tornado atop the standings.

All that was left was for Charity to show if they possess the title mettle and know-how to take advantage of a great opportunity.

Turns out, they don’t. And, needless to add, Tornado do.

Deus Muhumuza scored a match-best 41 runs for Tornado, who lost the toss and were predictably put in to bat before managing a risky total of 179.

Yet Tornado’s bowling nous ensured that Charity’s batting never got going, with Sebanja’s 21 runs the best individual effort for them. Tembo Zubair with 3/11 in eight overs was the pick of Tornado’s bowling, which dismissed Charity for just 93 runs in 32.5 overs.

Charity have won plenty of admirers for their constant improvement in recent years and many neutrals are hoping they can go all the way to an unprecedented title this season. Yet as the two losses against the Tornado clubs have shown, this is probably not Charity’s year.
