RALLY driver Ponsiono Lwakataka has been remanded to Mubuku Government Prison by the Kasese chief magistrate's court on Friday over a case in which he has been accused of transporting immature fish.
Lwakataka who was arrested on Thursday in Kampala appeared before the court presided over by Mbabazi Agatonica who remanded him till July 23 when he will reappear in court.
Prosecution told court that on June 29, fisheries law enforcement officials intercepted a lorry registration number UAF 148C loaded with over 11 tonnes of immature fish belonging to Lwakataka who was driving behind the lorry in a convoy of two vehicles.
Prosecution said Lwakataka escaped, abandoning his Toyota Premio saloon car and the lorry which were both impounded.
Lwakataka was arrested in Kampala and transferred back to Kasese to answer charges of dealing in immature fish.
Adam Ssemugabe the fisheries officer in charge of Rwenzori region said that when they tried to arrest Lwakataka he drew a gun and aimed it at them which prompted the law enforcers to shoot the tyres of his vehicle but he escaped.
