BUGANDA Road Court has remanded three Non-Governmental Organization workers for allegedly trafficking a 19 year old girl to Abu Dhabi with purposes of labour and sexual exploitation.
The accused are Ben Mayanja 30, (executive director), United Citizen Child Support Organization and a resident of Kisaasi, Joseph Wamala, (manager) a resident of Kirudu-Buziga, Makindye Division and Ruth Kayaga (social worker) residing in Namasuba-Kikajjo, all working with in the same organisation.
The three were sent to Luzira Prison after pleading not guilty of the offence.
Prosecution alleges that in April this year, the three under their NGO which takes care of needy children in Wandegeya in Kawempe Division, recruited and transported Juliana Mbabazi who was unemployed from Kampala to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
They allegedly used road via Busia-Malaba-Kenya with purposes of labour exploitation contrary to Section 53(11) of the Prevention of Trafficking of Persons Act 2009.
The state prosecutor, Lillian Omara told court that the three duped Mbabazi that they had got her a job to work as a cashier in a supermarket.
But to her surprise on landing in Abu Dhabi, she was forced into selling sex after confiscating her passport amidst threats.
“She was confined in a room and ordered to serve two men with sex on top of doing casual work,” Omara noted.
The three face charges of trafficking of persons with purposes of sexual exploitation.
Buganda Road court magistrate Lillian Bucyana remanded that three and adjourned the case to July 21.
