Uganda v Seychelles (Today kick off at 4pm)
KAMPALA - Domestic football body FUFA is in a financial crisis and needs sh1b to honour six international matches in Kampala, Rwanda and Mauritania.
The matches will be held this month.
FUFA president Moses Magogo said that they need the money to fly in players, prepare teams, meet costs for international referees due to handle the matches.
“Participating in six international matches is a toll order for the federation,” Magogo told a press conference at FUFA House, Mengo yesterday.
“We call on Ugandans to support us. Our sources of income are limited. Without government support, we are constrained to the limit.” Magogo explained.
Elaborating Magogo’s point, FUFA finance director Decolas Kiza said that
they require a minimum of sh350m to honour away matches and sh250m for home games.
The official added that the friendly matches will cost them sh60m.
Other costs will bring the total needed to the sh1b mark.
Cranes’ programme will kick off against Seychelles today before the team takes on Malawi in another friendly on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, FUFA announced charges for the friendly matches. The charges are sh10,000 and sh5,000 for the pavilion and stands respectively.
Charges for Cranes Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mauritania scheduled for July 19 were also released.
The charges are sh120,000, sh50,000 and sh20000 for gold, VIP and open stands respectively.
Meanwhile, Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Issa Hayatou (below) has paid tribute to Somalia’s first captain Mohamed Qalaf Aden Shangole, who died on Tuesday.
“I received with sadness the news of the death of Mohammed Qalaf Shangole, an icon and legend of the Somalia game,” Hayatou told CAF’s website.
“Not only was he the country’s first national team captain but went on to inspire many more players and Somalis with his contribution to the game behind his playing days.”
