Oil and Gas Engineer Robert Wandera leaves unmatched legacy

 

 

Indeed, not even some of the closest family members saw it coming. Wandera’s close friend Philip Egesa, said the oil expert was in high spirits hours before he passed on.

 

“We were coming from Busia on that fateful day, and when we were driving back to Kampala, he made me laugh that my stomach started hurting. We came when he was cracking jokes, but when we reached in Jinja, I jumped out of his car and i decided to use our company car,”

 

 

Egesa told mourners he drove a head of him, and after a few minutes he received a call from someone calling him back to Jinja that his friend had got an accident, he drove back and found him when he was still alive, put him in the car and rushed him to Jinja Hospital, unfortunately, he never heard from him again.

 

His colleagues had so much hope in him: “When Robert returned from China, he came to my office and briefed me about his training and his stay in China, he asked for leave days but I told him that he had to first deliver his report to staff members, what is hurting, he has taken a long leave that we are not going to see him again,” said Fred Kabanda, the head of regulations unit in Ministry of Energy.

 

Speaker after speaker described the late as a down-to-earth, faithful, loving, hardworking, intelligent and a God filled man that sometime he would park his car at home and use Taxis in order to preach the gospel of Christ. 

 

He would pick people’s numbers from lonely columns pages and send them Godly messages.

 

“There is no Continent that Robert has not visited, but whenever he had a trip, he would wear a tie that had Jesus wordings, when he gave out his business card, he would also give you another card about God and his love,” said Ronald Segawa, of Ministry of Energy.

In his poetic message, Justice James Ogoola said that the late died exactly within the age bracket of the Sovereign Master whom he served with such selfless dedication, diligence and delight.

 

“This young preacher from the lakeshores of Samia-Bugwe, combed the nooks and crags of every corner of Uganda. He was out on a vigorous and vibrant fishing expedition to fish out the souls of the youth into the dragnet of Christ’s Kingdom,” said Justice Ogoola.

 

“We have lost an icon in the family. We will miss you Robert,” said Michael Wanyama, his brother.

 

 

His wife Jackie Wandera described him as a loving, humorous, caring family man. Who welcomed anyone at home and shared the little he had with people.

 

“When he died, we looked for a suit for him but we failed to get one because he had given out all his suits,” she said.

She shared with mourners the first time she visited his one bedroomed house in Luzira.

 

 

“When we were dating, I visited him, and to my surprise, he gave me water, Ovacado and oranges, as if that was not enough, when I was taking my water in a polythene bag, a rat passed by. I was not bothered because I loved him,”

She said that she later realized that Robert was testing him and from that incidence, he proposed to her.

 

“I have been loved. There is no one on this earth who has showed me love like my husband. We have been together for a short time, but I have enjoyed,” she said.

 

 

He was born on January 22,1977 to Cyprian Wanyama and Victar Wanyama of Busia. He went to Masaba Primary School and later joined Namilyango College, and later Makerere University.
