Two children knocked dead in motor rally

Two children died in an accident that involved seven people, leaving five injured, after a rally car driven by Umar Daudi rammed into them at Mpagati, Zirobwe in Luweero.

LUWEERO - Two children, Rehema Nanyanzi, 4, and an unidentified boy estimated to be aged between 4-5 years, died in an accident that involved seven people, leaving five injured, after a rally car driven by Umar Daudi rammed into them at Mpagati, Zirobwe in Luweero.
The national motorsport governing body (FMU) Sunday mourned the two children who died during the SMC Challenge Rally.
In a press briefing at the NCS headquarters in Lugogo, Kampala, FMU President Jack Wavamuno said, “Accidents happen in motorsport, but it’s sad that today’s [Sunday] accident claimed the lives of two juveniles.”
Improving safety
“We join their parents and relatives to mourn these young ones as a federation and our doctor, Steven Kaate, is at Mulago Hospital following up on those injured to make sure that their lives are saved.
"We shall do all it takes to see that it doesn’t happen again,” he stressed in a breaking voice.

The four admitted in Mulago Hospital are Rose Nakanwagi (10 years) daughter of Chris Lubega, Hanifah Nantale (6) daughter of Juma Kayemba, Mawejje Kabeba (15) son of Dumba and Herman Kasambula (15) son of Nankabirwa all of Zirobwe.
The fifth victim Aisha Nabagala, 27, sustained chest and back injuries and was admitted at JEK Hospital in Busiika.
The rally, which was the fourth round of the National Rally Championship, sponsored by Uganda Telecom, Coca Cola, MJ Safaris and Lavanda Hotel, was won by Ronald Ssebuguzi.
