The Government plans to recruit 4,000 teachers in secondary and tertiary institutions in order to address the low staffing challenges within the sector, Badru Lubega Wagwa, the chairman Education Service Commission has revealed.
“We intend to recruit 4,000 teachers this financial year but that is subject to the availability of funds. If we got the funds tomorrow, then we would announce the recruitment process,” Lubega said on Tuesday while presiding over the swearing in of two members of the Education Service Commission at the High Court.
Edna Kentaro Baryaruha and John Malinga were recently appointed by President Yoweri Museveni to serve as members of the Education Service Commission to ensure that all the seven members of the commission are in place.
Lubega explained that the number required in each of the sectors will be determined by the Ministry because they are responsible for identifying the staffing levels.
In a separate interview, Godfrey Gatemwa, the commissioner for planning and statistics in the Ministry of Education, revealed that the Government requires 40,000 teachers if it is to address low staffing levels in secondary schools.
