The national identity card registration process is hitting top notch as six million people register for the ID everyone will need to access any public service.

The distribution of registration kits (used in the process) has also hit 100% in all the districts in the country.

Pamela Ankunda, the internal affairs ministry communications officer, told New Vision yesterday “about six million people have so far registered, as the countdown to end of mass enrolment starts.”

“Paper comes in every Wednesday, so we are able to tally and know the numbers who have registered,” Nankunda explained.

She said that after August 11, after registration at parish level closes, every Ugandan who will not have registered for the national ID will have to contend with the more tedious task of registering at their sub-counties.

“We are appealing to everyone who has not yet registered to hurry and do so. There are kits. There are the personnel. So there shouldn’t be any excuse,” Ankunda said.
