UNDER-13 skipper Meddy Nsereko is sure his team can perform much better at the next edition of the annual East Africa Cup scheduled for June next year in Moshi, Tanzania.

The local representatives Chrisc Uganda’s quest to the title was ended at the quarterfinal stage after falling to a 1-0 defeat against Mikadini Youth Center at the Moshi Technical grounds over the weekend.

The poor performance according to Nsereko was partly psychological because of the absence of inspirational goalkeeper Owen Balyejusawo who was barred from playing for allegedly being above the required age bracket.

Balyejusawo who is making 13 on December 8th was also the only deaf participant at the weeklong tournament that ended on Saturday.

He played all the four group stage games where Uganda won two and drew the other before he was side-lined for Nasser Muhwezi in the quarter final game.

“We were just demoralized after our keeper was denied a chance to play, he is deaf but very good at goalkeeping but I am still sure that with the capability of the whole team we shall be able to win next year,” Nsereko said.

In preparation for the next edition, 10 year old Nsereko will miss the services of three other players in Edger Sserwanja, Emmanuel Ayo and Abdul Karim who will be making 14 later this year.

Uganda’s Abdu Karimu walked away with the best player’s award in the U-13 category.
