Kampala Archdiocese unveils its 60th Parish

Kampala Archdiocese over the weekend (Sunday) inaugurated the 60th parish which it named St Joseph Mukasa Balikuddembe Catholic Parish Buloba, located along Mityana road in Wakiso district.

The new parish was launched by Archbishop of Kampala Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga with the help by Bishop of Masaka diocese, John Baptist Kaggwa who is a born of the parish.
 

Others who attended the function were Vicar general of Kampala, Msgr Charles Kasibante, pastoral coordinator of Kampala Archdiocese Fr. Dr. Mark Richard Ssajjabi, the Archdiocese Chancellor Fr Joseph Mary Ssebunnya, Parish priest of Busega parish Fr Joseph Kibugwe and several priests born from the parish and others from different parishes.

The colorful function started with Holy Mass held at the Buloba Church premises, presided over by the 10:30 am with the procession of the Priests, nuns, choir and Christians, at the proposed new Church premises under construction.
 

The function was attended by a big crowd of clergy and laity from the various Parishes and Institutions making up the Archdiocese of Kampala and beyond.
 

During the mass Chancellor Fr Ssebunnya read a letter signed by head officials of the Archdiocese announcing the creation of the new parish in the Archdiocese, a result of the 2014 commitment by the Archdiocese.
 

In his sermon the Archbishop Lwanga expressed concern over increased cases of violence in the families, poverty, Sickness, accidents, witchcrafts, jealous, tribalism, politics beliefs and faith differences.
 

“The only cause to help us to come over them as Catholics is to go back written documents of Vatican II and to read the Holy Bible, and I am happy to tell you that our new Catholic Bible is on market, and families you should buy them and read the word of God will help your families,” Lwanga said.
 

He said that as they celebrate of getting a new parish it’s everyone’s responsible to build this church so that it continue developing in body and spirits (John 10:10).
 

“Church it’s not just a building but the body of Christ (Roman 12:4-5), Lwanga said.
 

"Getting the new parish brings another step closer to enlivening and enriching our archdiocese," Archbishop Lwanga said.

"I am grateful to all those who are making every effort to cooperate with surrounding parishes, whether in mergers, linkages or partnerships as we move forward together to do the work of evangelization in the name of Jesus Christ."
 

He advised the People to be at peace with one another and to avoid actions that may cause breach of peace in their various communities and Parishes.

Lwanga tasked parents to be vigilant and build firm foundations for their families to enable their children.

The current Bishop of Masaka, Kaggwa, also rector of Nyenga Seminary, Fr Safari and several priests and nuns come from the newly created parish.
 

At the Holy Mass, eleven couples wedded and over 150 children received their first communion.

The theme of day was “Tumaliridde okujulira Kristu, nga mwoyo Mutukirivu bwa'atulambika” interpreted "We have failed to witness for the Holy spirit as the holy spirit tells us to".
 

The Parish entrusted to “St Joseph Mukasa Balikuddembe” is among the lucky parishes erected in this jubilee year when the Church is preparing to commemorate 50 years since the Uganda Martyrs were canonized by Pope Paul VI at Rome.
 

Fr Edward Ssebuliba is the new parish priest. He said that every big thing they see started as small things.

“Even us who have been blessed to see who this sub-parish from the beginning to today when it is inaugurated as parish, let’s thank and praise God.”
 

He called upon Christians to pray for them, guide them and to work together to develop the parish.
 

The Church located on two and a half acres donated by the family of Thomas and Marcellina Gaceri, the parents of Fr Safari and Joseph Mugisha.
 

The Episcopal Vicar of Wakiso zone, Msgr John Wynand Katende, also thanked the parishioners for the good work they have done to see that get a new parish. He added that this is 24th Parish in Wakiso Vicariate.
