Time check 7:00pm on a Saturday and the brass band starts treating music lovers to renditions of The Beattles and other R&B hits.
These were spiced by local folk tale songs that sent many fans off their seats, improvised coats into dance costumes and sent their waists propelling.
That is how Kampala joined 628 cities across the world to celebrate International Music Day June 22.

“Music is our heritage,” said the Bayimba vocalist.
“It is in those oral stories that were crafted so many centuries ago. We can use our xylophones, drums, adungu and flutes to play Spanish tunes or jazz.”

Celebrating Kampalans stormed the bars and open charcoal ovens for chicken roast served with a jacket potato.
Security was tight as police officers checked every guest with metal detectors and sharp objects.
In the carnival crowd were tourists, authors, dancers and visual artists being united by music.
