For almost every ardent book reader, getting an autograph from the author of the book is always taken as a once in life time opportunity.

This was the case last Saturday when renowned African writers Zukiswa Wanner from South Africa, Zimbabwean NoViolet Bulawayo and Nii Ayikwei Parkes from Ghana spared a day off their time to sign copies of their books at the Garden City based Aristoc book shop.

They were later joined by Uganda’s Manchester based writer and recent winner of the 2014 Commonwealth Short Story Prize, Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi.

Together, they autographed books bought by their readers.

Zukiswa’s books were Maid in S.A and her latest London-Cape Town-Jo’burg.

Ayikwei autographed his Tail of the Blue Bird, NoViolet- her We Need New Names and our very own Makumbi was pleasurably auto graphing her very first novel Kintu that was launched just last week on Wednesday at the National Theatre.

A number of a few lucky buyers had this rear opportunity before the writers headed to the National Theatre auditorium to witness and take part in the judgment of the 2014 Writivism Short Story Prize that was won by South Africa’s Saaleha Bhamjee.
