Mbabazi scoffs at causers of disunity

KAMPALA - Ugandan Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi has hit at people who are fighting to cause disunity, challenging such elements to tell the public what they benefit from their efforts in causing unrest, instability and disunity in the country.

He was speaking at a ceremony where a Seventh Day Adventist church was in a drive to raise sh75m to buy land at Kabojja for expansion.

At the function held at Kikajjo SDA Church on Saturday, Mbabazi donated sh10m as Prime Minister and sh5m on behalf of his family towards the cause.

In his remarks, he said some people had made it a habit to destabilize the country, which he said clearly impacts negatively on the affairs of Uganda.

 “We all know how far we have come to try and create a peaceful atmosphere for Ugandans,” he reminded the multidenominational congregation.

“Why should someone come up and try to destroy the peace we are having? What exactly do you gain by turning people against each other?”

The PM went on to thank religious leaders for doing good work of promoting peace and unity, which he said is the basis of a country’s development.

“In fact you [the SDA] have shown us that with determination and unity, we can achieve what we need to achieve,” he said in reference to the individual contributions.

“Where there is a way, there is a will.”

Mbabazi called on the church’s organisers to inform him of what has been raised and if there is any balance, he will be able to speak to “his friends” to see that the land is got as it will be helpful in the upbringing of children.

Referring to the new church land, Kikajjo SDA Church’s Pastor Jimmy Kaaya said that getting the church near town will enable them counsel the youths, mostly from the slum areas and also teach them the best way to become leaders.
