THE crew of Peter Kakaire and Edward Kiyingi in a Subaru Impreza N10 are focused on getting a podium finishes in this year’s National Rally Championship (NRC) competitions, but duo is wary of Ronald Ssebuguzi.

Kakaire told New Vision Sport that fitness was the only challenge after over two years without competing but he is working on it and is confident that he will get a podium finish this year.

“With the machine now upgraded giving full power, we are targeting the NRC title and at worst a podium finish,” the 2010 club rally championship and sprint circuit title holder sponsored by uganda telecom stated with confidence.

He explained that the sponsorship has helped the team compete favourable in the expensive sport since they can now manage regular servicing and getting new spare parts for the car ahead of any event.

“We must perform because renewing our partnership will depend on performance and that makes us a bigger threat to other drivers,” Kakaire added.

Fruitless journey to Tanzania

The crew of Duncan Mubiru and Musa Nsubuga in a Subaru N16 and that of Shafiq Ssemujju and Hussein Mukuye returned from Tanzania empty handed after failing to complete the Oryx Energies Rally over the weekend.

Ssemujju and former Africa Rally Championship (ARC) champion Muhammad Essa of Zambia crashed out in day one in the Banda Forest section while Mubiru crashed out on day 2 of the event.

They now turn their attention to the Rwanda Gorilla Rally where all drivers are looking to compensate for points lost in Tanzania.
