Uganda, starting tomorrow, will host the International Vocational Education and Training Association conference, this first of its kind in Uganda.

The four-day conference will officially be opened by the education minister Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo and is expected to bring together delegates from the Eastern and Central African states.

The conference will also attract experts in technical and vocational education and training fields, education assessors, policy makers, academicians, researchers and practitioners in the technical field.

It will be held under the theme, “The role of technical and vocational education and training in building regional economies.”

This year’s regional conference hosted by UBTEB and being held in Uganda will provide opportunities for people interested in vocational education and training to meet and interact face-to-face,” according to a statement released by Paul Amoru, the national organising chairperson. He is also UBTEB’s principal public relations officer.

On the other hand, the conference will also help identify future knowledge based initiatives, enhance one’s understanding of the dynamics of IVET in the region and also bring together policy makers and stakeholders to inform.

The participants will also seize the opportunity to share their visions and concerns for TVET (Technical Vocational Education and Training) in future and also lookout for areas of reform.

Some of the key issues to be tackled include; exploitation of technological advancement in promoting IVET, and the role of technical and vocational education to the oil and gas industry.

International Vocational Education Training and Association (IVETA) is basically a network of vocational educators.

The network includes vocational skills training organisations, business and industrial firms, and other individuals and groups interested or involved in vocational education and training worldwide.

IVETA is dedicated to the advancement and improvement of high quality vocational education and training throughout the world.

On December 3, 2013, the IVETA International secretariat and the Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board entered into a memorandum of understanding to establish the IVETA Eastern and Central African regional office in Kampala, Uganda.

The memorandum of understanding that was signed in Las Vegas, Nevada- USA. During this conference IVETA annual membership placed a number of responsibilities on the Uganda Business and Examinations Board (UBTEB) and its present leadership to champion the course of IVETA in Eastern and Central Africa.
