Commonwealth double gold medalist in the 5000m and 10000m will open his track account this season by lining up against a host of international runners in the Golden Spike Ostrava meet on Tuesday evening.

Winnie Nanyondo will also be up against runners that include former World champion Caster Semenya and Jenny Meadows as she goes for the national record, having broken the 2 minute barrier last week.

Kipsiro, who has been off with an injury will be starting his season against a number of talented and experienced runners including USA’s Bernard Lagat, New Zealand’s Willis Nick and Robertson Zane, and a host of fast paced Kenyans-including Augustine Choge, the 2006 Commonwealth Games champion, who has vowed to regain the title that Kipsiro took in New Delhi.

Already double Olympics and World champion Mohammed Farah has been confirmed to be part of England’s 46 teams to the Games that are set to start next month.

Apart from Choge, Kipsiro, who was in Kampala last week processing his passport and had been expected to fly out over the weekend, will also battle against other runners like Abdenego Chesebe, Caleb Ndiku Jonathan Ndiku among others as he fights to improve on his personal best of 7 minutes 30.95 seconds set in Monaco in 2009

News that Kipsiro is back after a nagging injury eases pressure from the federation who made a final minute decision to include him on the team to Glasgow, despite not taking part in any competition after the Africa Cross Country championships.

Nanyondo, on the other hand will be battling common competitors Jennifer Meadows-part of England bound team to the games, Semenya, Cuba’s Rose Almanza, Belarus’s Arzamasava Maryna among other field of women stars who have personal best that are below 2 minutes.

Nanyondo is targeting to break Annet Negesa’s record of 1:59.08 which was set at the FBK Games in Netherlands in 2012. She ran 1:59:39 last week, her first sub 2 minutes in life.

“I am targeting the national record,” she had said after the race.
