President Yoweri Museveni has said that he will work with whoever wins the elections that the South Sudan proposed interim government would organize.

Addressing journalists Wednesday at his country home in Rwakitura, Museveni said that once the interim government takes shape in the conflict-riddled South Sudan, UPDF would also withdraw its forces.

Museveni, who attended a recent 26th extra-ordinary Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) meeting in Ethiopia where regional leaders asked President Salva Kiir and Dr. Riek Machar to commit to peace, said that: “They have agreed to form an interim government. We will work with the one who wins the elections. We have no problem now; we have achieved our goal in South Sudan.”

On UPDF presence in South Sudan, Museveni said that the Ugandan army went to South Sudan to stop a collapse of the State and that in his assessment; the army has done a good job.

“We have now decided to give our brothers in South Sudan a chance to rebuild their country,” he said.

South Sudan was plunged into chaos last December when a section of soldiers loyal to Machar mutinied resulting in fighting that escalated around the country.

Realizing the need to avert a possible genocide, Museveni dispatched the UPDF to Juba on the invitation of President Salva Kiir.

Museveni hinted on a possible complete withdraw of UPDF from Juba and other places if the interim government takes shape in South Sudan.
