Nakaseke residents have received free agricultural training to empower them fight poverty and conserve the environment.

The one-day training conducted by Indian Women Association (IWA) Uganda took place in Busukuma sub-county on June 8.

The association chairperson, Gurmeet Kaur, said the training was aimed at equipping residents with skills and knowledge on how to utilise the natural resources in their surroundings.

“All the training relies on the resources that you can easily access in your community and therefore that should make your adoption very easy. Make it a point to take on this knowledge and spread it to everyone in the community who did not attend,” said Gurmeet.

She said this would in the long run ensure sustainability and also equip residents on other ways of cutting home costs.

Gurmeet added IWA will continue to empower communities and promised to continue organising more trainings in future.

IWA chairman board of Trustees, Rajni Taylor said the training will be annually to empower the communities.

“IWA has been instrumental is committed to training communities fight poverty in Uganda and will now engage communities using the locally available resources,” said Taylor.

Andrew Kiguli Serunkuma, the chairman for youth, said Busukuma has 8 villages and are all poverty stricken; with the trainings, poverty will be kicked out.

“We as local leaders we are going to utilise this knowledge we have acquired. We shall also make sure that we follow the residents to see if they are practicing what they have learnt,” said Kiguli.
