KAMPALA - The woes of KCCA netball club continued from where they ended last year as the club may now be thrown out of the national league if they continue failing to honour their fixtures as drawn by the organising committee.
KCCA last Saturday failed to honour their league opening fixture against Kamwokya side Blue Star at Namboole, citing lack of funds for both registration and transport.
“We requested the committee to postpone our games because our (KCCA) bosses have not released the team registration fee and transport funds for the team,” said coach Janat Nahamya.
Nahamya pointed out that most of her girls are students and cannot afford to use their own money to foot the transport and feeding bills for the team.
A club pays sh250,000 for participation in the league and an extra sh3000 for license of each player and sh10,000 license for each official.
However, the secretary of the planning committee Ruth Rwakabale refuted the claims, saying KCCA club officials did not formally communicate to the organisers as required by the regulations which led her committee to award a walkover to the Blue Stars.
“I have not received any letter from KCCA to show Blue Stars, therefore the walkover stands and KCCA should not give excuses of funds because only NIC have paid and all other clubs have been given a grace period of upto the end of this month,” Rwakabale told the New Vision.
Upon the transformation from KCC to KCCA, the club’s problems started last year with the appointment of a new authority sports officer who replaced Tom Lwanga.
On assuming office, Lwanga asked the club officials to give him a report on the club relationship with the authority and when had it started with their achievements in that period.
The national netball league has eleven teams that include, National Insurance Corporation (NIC), Posta, Prisons, UPDF, UCU, KCCA, Blue Star, TLC, Police and new entrants Kawempe workers and Maroons.
