Following the breakup of Eagles’ Production recently, another long standing drama group, Diamonds Ensemble has fallen apart over money wrangles. The group is the brainchild of Kato Lubwama.

Members including Shifa Namutebi, Robert Nsirikidde aka commander, Maimuna Maimo, Miracle Nalwanga and Ssemuko Kasaatto have called in quits saying all they have done ever since they joined the group ten years ago is feed hand to mouth while their master enriched himself.

The fallout follows the departure of Joseph Sennabulya and Bosco Lubwama who quit early this year.

The members are some of the oldest in the group since Kato formed Diamonds Ensemble with Asraf Semwogerere in 1998 after splitting from fellow drama artists Abby Mukiibi and John Segawa. Asraf was the first to fallout with Lubwama over money wrangles.

The group has staged several local dramas including Bakisimba mu ddwaaniro, Ggeyeena mu Lubiri, Akanyoolabicca, Nnamulondo ku kyotto, Kasasambula mu bbwa and Abalabbayi.

Kato Lubwama speaks out

Commenting on the fallout Lubwama, who is renowned for using his dilated eyes to make fun, borrowed a line from Eddy Kenzo, 'Sitya loosi' meaning he does not fear losing.

He says he was already tired of them anyway so their fallout has given him a peace of mind to rebuild the group.

He further chided them saying they could try forming their own group to appreciate the burden he has been carrying.

"Sustaining the group has not been easy but truth is I am relieved because I was already fed up of them," Lubwama said.

In the same breath he cautioned them not to even dare use his scripts because he will take them on.

Speaking about the breakaway members, Lubwama accused Sennabulya of confusing female members in the group and using them.

He said Robert Nsirikidde is an alcohol abuser and whom he even advised him to form a drama group of drunkards.

He accused Bosco Lubwama of being ungrateful for the things he has done for him, especially when he bailed him out of Luzira prison with his own money.

In his characteristic manner, Lubwama said he does not understand all those badmouthing him because he is the one who has elevated the members to where they are and even took them to London.

Continuing his tirade, he said all those that have so far left him have failed to make it and instead fallen out. He gave an example of Eagles Production saying they left him calling him a thief but eventually their band also fell apart.

Accuses Asraf of envy

Picking on each of them, Lubwama attacked Asraf saying he is jealousy. He said whenever he (Lubwama) did anything developmental Asraf would badmouth him.

He further chided them all saying they have not learnt that he has made a name for himself and therefore can stand on his own.

Speaking of his former colleague, Asraf told this reporter that he had nothing much to say about him.

"Please forgive me I cannot say much about Lubwama’s accusations, " Asraf said on phone.

On his part, Robert Nsirikidde said if he was not of any use to Lubwama for the 20 years he has been with him he would have already chased him.

Bosco said Lubwama runs the group like he does his family affairs.

“I have not gained anything for the time I have spent with him yet I am a renowned drama artist. I am tired of hot air; I have made my friends rich yet they pay poorly. In fact it’s like they are doing us a favour to exist," Bosco said.

Sennabulya said Lubwama is disrespectful towards them yet they are mature people with families.

He said they have already formed a new group named "Freedom Entertainment".
