Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba has said that President Yoweri Museveni’s words are similar to those of the late South African anti-apartheid hero, Nelson Mandela.

“President Museveni’s words are similar to those of Nelson Mandela,” said the professor.

“The youth are the epicenter of the nation. They are the fabric of the nation – you tear it down and you tear the nation down,” he said.

Speaking to NRM youth from Western Uganda, Nuwagaba who is from Makerere University’s department of social work and administration, said he has written a book titled From Poverty to Transformation where he details Uganda’s remarkable development in the last 28 years.

“Peace and security has been the hallmark for this growth. We salute the UPDF and other security agencies for the job well done.

“Now that government is working on energy and infrastructure, what is going to happen is structural growth of the economy,” Nuwagaba told the youth, who gathered at Lake View Hotel in Mbarara.

At the meet, he also presented a paper titled The role of the Youth in Transformation of Uganda’s Economy’.

Uganda, he said, is among the countries with the highest economic growth rates in the World (5-6% per annum).

“These high rates happen without sufficient infrastructure development, electricity, roads. How about if we develop sufficient infrastructure? Peace and security has been the hallmark for this growth. We salute UPDF and other security agencies for the job well done," he said.

"It is attitude not aptitude which delivers a person to the altitude. You hear people talking of youth of these days, there isn't such a thing, you are all youth of Uganda.”

Museveni is meeting youth from various regions of the country to discuss how they can contribute to the social-economic development of the country.

“Now that Government is working on energy and infrastructure, what is going to happen is structural growth of the economy,” Nuwagaba said.
