Over 250 motorists and four passengers in Mbarara were fined for allegedly defying traffic laws.
Patrick Mungansa, the Rwizi region traffic officer, told New Vision on Thursday that suspects who include drivers and boda boda riders were arrested in connection with non-compliance with traffic regulatory requirements.
“They had no helmets, driving permits, PSV, Third Party, over loading while passengers were arrested for accepting be carried in unsafe manner and were each issued with a penalty express fee of sh100, 000,” he explained.

The suspects were netted within one week since May 13 when Norman Musinga, the commander of traffic operations, launched an operation to crack down errant motorists on the road in Rwizi region.
He said fines amounting to over sh13.7m were issued to both motorists and passengers since the launch of the operation in the region.
Ham Turinabo 40, a driver of a Toyota Corona registration number UAE 790E who said was hired by local traders to transport their produce from Koranorya market at sh20,000 was among the drivers issued with heavy express penalty fee of sh200,000 after charged with overloading and carrying passengers in unsafe manner.
Passengers, Abias Nyongyera, 29, Peace Katushabe, 27, Ronald Musiimenta, 29 and Annet Nalubega, 32, all from Kisenyi, were issued with a penalty fee of sh100, 000 each.
