Chances of double Commonwealth 5000m and 10000m defending champion Moses Kipsiro to make it to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games are in balance after missing out on the first tentative list.

Kipsiro’s name was put on the reserve list after it was discovered that he had not yet healed from the injury that kept him out of the World Half marathon championships in Copenhagen, Denmark in April.

The technical committee of the national athletics federation took the decision over the weekend after Kipsiro had been pulled out of the Bangalore 10km road run because of the same injury and was replaced by Thomas Ayeko who finished in fourth position.
“We only need him to prove himself and this he can do on the field by running a good time. This time we are looking at performance and that is why we are saying that the available list is tentative,” said Faustino Kiwa.

2006 Melbourne 3000m Steeplechase champion Dorcus Inzikuru, who was making a comeback was not on the list together with Jackson Kiprop, who has been given a full year of rest to recover after being admitted in the Intensive Care Unit at Mulago for kidney failure early this year.

Also Benjamin Kiplagat has to run a better time before he can make it to the team as the national federation made moves of taking competitive and future promising athletes to such games.

The marathon team will have Solomon Mutai, Abraham Kiplimo and Philip Kiplimo, while Moses Kibet, Timothy Toroitich, Thomas Ayeko, Philip Kipyeko, Vanis Chemutai and Juliet Chekwel will make it in the long distances.

Two times Africa women triple jump champion Sarah Nambawa and the men’s short relay team of Dennis Opio, Ali Ngaimoko, Emmanuel Tugumisirize and Anthony Okiror have all been entered.

“This is the tentative team. We have asked all other athletes to go and do their biometrics and also perform better. We will be looking at the performance this season to enter a team and as such, if we have a better performance, then we will not hesitate to replace any on the list,” said Kiwa.
