Falcons v Vegetarian

City Oil v Rhinos

City Oil and the Falcons should extend their winning streaks in the National Basketball League (NBL) to three games when they return to action today at the YMCA.

The Falcons take on Vegetarian before reigning champions City Oil face the Rhinos but there is a clear gap in quality in both contests, making the outcomes all but foregone conclusions.

Even though the Vegetarians defeated the Falcons in their last meeting last year, it is highly unlikely this reunion will end in another upset. The Falcons have looked sharp and focused in their opening two victories even if they have come against newly-promoted Sharing and the Rhinos, neither of which is currently a top six side in the NBL.

The Rhinos began the season with a shock win over the UCU Canons, who beat City Oil in the season opener. But it would take an extraordinary display for Hamza Nyambogo’s Rhinos to avoid a blowout against the Oilers, who have recovered from their opening-day reverse with back-to-back wins.

Wednesday contests in the NBL rarely feature two equally matched sides, a fact that is partly continuing the decline in attendances of regular season matches. Governing body FUBA seem resigned to low attendances on all other days except Fridays, something that perhaps needs to be addressed soon.
