EXPERIENCED sailors Gordon Bell, Raint Bekema and Philip Bets will be the men to beat as Entebbe Club hosts one of the biggest sailing events in the country as they celebrate 50 years on Sunday.

The Nyanza Sailing Club trio will be up against 2003 winner Jelmer van Lieshout.

Over 30 sailors from Uganda and around the world will face off in an Olympic boat class competition.

There will be up to 8 individual races with the 6 best results counting.

The races will take place at the Entebbe bay starting at midday and can be watched from the shores of the lake, Botanical Gardens or local restaurants at the shore.

Celebrations started on May 10 with a 40km race.

It was followed by the “Russell Martin Deering Cup,” an open class competition where different boats race together completing an Olympic triangle.

Entebbe Sailing Club’s George Zenk is also a hot contender because of his perfect knowledge of the lake conditions.
