The business, with a Ugandan subsidiary located in Namanve Industrial Park, specializes in the manufacture of packaging, packaging machinery and contract packing for the food sector.

News of his death came through an email communication sent to New Vision Wednesday evening from his brother Shahid Sheikh, who is also the company’s managing director.

“It is with deep personal regret and a heavy heart that I write to inform you of the recent passing of our beloved elder brother Khalid Sheikh, Chairman of Clifton Packaging Group Ltd,” Shahid wrote.

Last year, the deceased was awarded the Pearl of Africa Lifetime Achievement Award in honour of his contribution towards social economic transformation of Uganda as well as attainment of the UN Millennium Development Goals.

Shahid said that his brother Khalid, the founder of Clifton Packaging, has been at the forefront of the company for over 33 years.

“It has been his relentless inspiration and passion that has helped to create our excellent reputation, which has driven us to where we are today,” he said.

He added: “Each of us not only grieves at the passing of a tremendous individual but also for the loss we as a family suffer at the sad demise of our elder brother, who has always been both the head and heart of our family.”

"No words can adequately express our sadness of Khalid’s demise but we will ensure that his memory is maintained by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he passionately devoted himself too."

The family says details of the funeral would be communicated later.
