Uganda Martyrs awareness team storms Wakiso

The Catholic Church Uganda Martyrs awareness team dubbed in Luganda as “ekikungo ky’Abajulizi,”on Thursday attracted hundreds of Christians at St Jude’s Catholic Church Wakiso to listen to stories about the 22 pages who became great martyrs of modern times.

The campaign that was launched at The Holy Family Catholic Parish, Namayumba in Wakiso District last January is part of the story-telling campaign to raise awareness among Christians of the jubilee celebrations for the 22 Uganda Martyrs since they were canonised. The climax of the Golden Jubilee is slated for October 18 this year.
 

The execution of twenty three Christians at Namugongo on June 3, 1886 was the climax of the battle against the converts.

The last person killed in this crusade, was Jean-Marie Muzeeyi, who was beheaded at Mengo on Jan 27, 1887.

The awareness team comprised Pastoral coordinator of Kampala Archdiocese Fr. Dr. Mark Richard Ssajjabi, Fr Joseph Mukasa Muwonge the promoter of Uganda Martyrs in Kampala, Fr Dominic Mwebe Parish priest of Nansana, Fr Augustine Mpagi of Nandere Seminary in Luweero diocese.

Others priests were Fr John Mary Mwanje Parish Priest of St Jude Wakiso and his curate Fr George William Ssentamu.
 

Others were Revocato Kalema who was born lame, but was prayed for through the Uganda Martyrs in 1961 and he got cured.
 

During the same campaign, a former witchdoctor Dativa Nabukalu revealed the tricks used in the shrines to lure customers. Nabukalu talked while changing her voice and was cheered throughout her testimony.
 

Dr Ssajjabi called upon the congregation to work hard look after themselves. “We have to work hard so that we look after selves and our families, that why God has given us hands to work, those who do not want to work they end up stealing others and that’s why everywhere the corruption,” he said.
 

He asked people who have jobs to respect their workers, he said that the Catholic Church worldwide treasure this Labour Day.
 

This is the thirteenth parish to be visited by the Uganda Martyrs team.

The team started at Namayumba, Kankobe, Kitakyusa, Namugongo, Ggoli, Nsambya, Lubaga, Mbuya, Matugga, Kibanga Mpigi, Kigoowa and Wakiso. The team is yet to visit other 49 remaining parishes that form Kampala Archdiocese
