Titi, Evans boost Lutaaya''s New Eagles band

The New Eagles of Geoffrey Lutaaya and wife Irene Namatovu are on a recruitment spree, with their latest joiners being Titie and Chris Evans. Others are Harriet Kisakye of ‘Ekinigeria’ and Baby face.

Reports indicate that with an upcoming busy concert schedule that will see the New Eagles traverse several parts of the country, Lutaaya has already printed posters announcing the shows that bear new faces.

Titie has also been pivotal in screening young singers who wish to join the band that has been going on for some time now. Auditions have been taking place at Dance Flo in Nateete since March.

Hopefuls who turned up for auditions

All this follows the break up of Eagles' Production after nearly 20 years of a budding music career, with a several of the members forming Golden Band after splitting.

However, the band having been depleted Lutaaya and Irene are now making a statement that they have moved on thus boosting their new band with new talent. Over the Easter weekend they also held well attended concerts.

Titie told confirmed to this reporter that she has joined Lutaaya though negotiations of the terms of employment are still ongoing.

"It's true I will be working with them and starting next week we will traverse different parts of the country," she said.

Irene also confirmed that the singers would help them build their new band but refused to divulge the details of the ongoing negotiations.

"We approached them and asked them to work with us and I am confident that together we can scale the heights with our new band."

Chris Evans said he reached an understanding with Lutaaya to perform at 30 concerts though it did not mean that he had joined the band.

"The truth is he asked me to perform at this concerts in Masaka but I am not part of New Eagles," Evans clarified.

Harriet Kisakye said for her it is a done deal and is no doubt an addition to the New Eagles having signed a two-year contract.

Monday this week was the third time auditions for young musicians wishing to join the band were taking place.

John Segawa, one of the judges, said the 40 contenders still in the race will be divided into 5 groups out of which the best three of each will join the New Eagles.

However sources say Lutaaya and wife have already been working with a group of eight youngsters who were identified as specially talented. These have been fine tuning their vocals at Lutaaya's Durban hotel in Najjanankumbi.

Among these are Tracy Ssemakula, 23, Evelyn Ndagire, Sasha Brighton, 22, Jovan Luzinda, 22, Brenda Simye, 20 and Julian Mulungi, 20.
