Four people were on Wednesday injured as Police Police battled residents of Kasokoso near Kireka in Wakiso district in an ongoing land row.

The Wednesday morning incident occurred as residents protested the alleged arrest of their leader Hajji Musa Ssekigudde.

In the fracas, the Police fired live rounds into the crowd injuring four people who were to Mulago hospital with bullet and stone wounds. Scores other sustained minor respiratory difficulties after the Police fired tear gas into their houses.

According to the Regional Police commander, Kampala Metropolitan East, Siraje Bakareke Sekigudde was arrested on court orders after he failed to honor court summons.

He said that court summoned Sekigudde and three others thrice but they kept in hiding which forced police to act.

“We had a warrant of arrest for Sekigudde and three others from Kira court on crimes of beating the Kira mayor Mamerto Mugerwa, burning up his car and inciting violence late last year. So we are acting according to the law,” Bakareke said.

He added that they will follow the law and arrest all the three people who are still on the run.

The three others on the run include: David Mugalya Chairman LC I Kireka ward D, Umar Muyanja, the mobilisation secretary for Kireka B and Peter Walulya a resident of Kasokoso Kiganda zone.

Bakareke urged the residents to stop the violence and resort to their work.

The residents of Kasokoso last year were locked in heated arguments with the Police and National Housing and Construction Corporation (NHCC) over the ownership of a strip of land, which NHCC claims ownership which the residents dispute.

The residents also took up arms against their area mayor torching his car.

According to Kira town council police station boss, Peter Nkulega, suspects were arrested after they were found burning used vehicle tyres in the roads blocking the road users.

“This group has been organizing the residents to block the roads and throwing stones at Police,” Nkulega said.

The area Member of Parliament, Ibrahim Nganda, who had earlier spoken with the residents, said he would do everything in his power to have the suspects released from Police custody.
