VETERAN boxer Hamis Semakula is optimistic that national team ‘bombers’ will perform well in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow later this year.

Semakula made the remarks after beating fellow veteran boxer Nasser Bukenya at the third National Boxing Trials at Lugogo on Monday.

Semakula is one of the former national boxers returning to action after a five year break. Following the victory, he vowed that chances of winning medals at Commonwealth games are high.

“We are undergoing serious training so I expect that we shall return home with a medals. Although I had taken time without having competitive tournaments, I feel am fit and ready for the Commonwealth Games,” Semakula stated.

Semakula was part of late coach Kent Musa Kibirige’s team that represented Uganda at the All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique in 2011. He lost in the quarterfinal.

The welterweight pugilist also won a silver medal in Mabingwa wa Mabingwa Championship that was held Tanzania in 2010 during his time in national team.
