NABIL Saleh won his second gold medal in the boys 12 and under 50m backstroke event on Friday morning as Uganda continued its push to the top of the standings at the CANA Zone 3 and 4 swimming championships at Kampala Parents School.
Saleh clocked 31.90 to beat Kenya’s pair of Karam Khagram (34.30) and Edward Roest (35.60) to the gold.
Rebecca Ssengozi (32.80) also added another Silver to her tally in the 50m backstroke in the girls (13-14 years) category to keep the country’s hopes alive on day two of the four-day event.
Ssengozi, 13, was beaten by her older opponent, Seychelles only swimmer to the event Passon Felicity, 14.
Tom Barendse, 17, also worked hard to win bronze in the boys’ 17 years and over category, also losing to Kenya’s opponents Bayusuf Hamdan who won gold and Abdallah Issa. The Kenyans are both 19 years.
Uganda’s girls (14 and under) medley relay team had on Thursday evening also picked bronze after the combination of Hind Kimberly, Anthea Mudanye, Rebecca Ssengonzi and Katrina Ssangalyambogo finished third behind the Mauritius and Kenyan teams that finished first and second respectively.
The boys team of Nabil Saleh, Hezekiah Owour, Nuwa Ssenkebe and Saleh Fadhil weren’t as that lucky as they finished 6th in the boys race.
