Deputy Residential District Commissioners (RDCs) for Kampala have defended President Yoweri Museveni’s attack on former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president Dr. Kizza Besigye and embattled Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago.
Led by deputy RCC Kampala Alan Kajik, the RDCs said there was no need for the President to apologize over his remarks saying the opposition was worse at attacking the government and calling Museveni ‘names’ .
“At no point did the President express hate speech, unless they are trying to say they were hit below the belt. The opposition has always attacked the President, walked out on him, accused him of being corrupt and he says nothing,” said Kajik.
Kajik told journalists that throughout his Kampala tour last week, the President only stressed issues on the development of Kampala which he said are being frustrated by the opposition.
He noted that the government through Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) had transformed Kampala and called upon the opposition to ensure that the development is maintained for a clean and organized capital city.
Deputy RCC for Kawempe Division, Deborah Nabukenya, said President Museveni‘s remarks towards the opposition members were in good faith but only misunderstood.
“There was nothing wrong with what the President said, when he says the truth, the opposition thinks that he hates them,” said Nabukenya.
During his Kampala tour last week to celebrate the three years of KCCA, President Museveni who was in company of the KCCA executive director, Jenifer Musisi, reportedly attacked the opposition saying they were acting like terrorists.
“These opposition leaders like Lukwago and Besigye and others act like terrorists and with selfishness. They are not bothered about your welfare, they bring chaos to your markets and trample over your merchandise,” Museveni said during activities to mark three years KCCA.
However, his remarks have since irked the opposition saying the President was inciting the public to kill them.
