FAVOURITES UCU travel to Makerere for two showdowns that will provide a good picture of the two camps’ readiness for the looming Zuku University Basketball League playoffs.

UCU and Makerere will face off in both the women and men’s draw in league contests that could have a significant bearing on how they enter the playoffs.

The UCU women and men lead their Makerere counterparts by one win in their respective groups but there is potential for a change in the standings with today’s games.

If the Makerere women win, they could put themselves in a position to overtake UCU, who have a gaudy points-difference and won the teams’ first-round meeting. The scenario is almost similar between the UCU men and their Makerere peers.

UCU hammered Makerere 84-48 over the weekend, meaning it would take a special performance from Makerere to gain a measure of revenge.

Still, while it is highly unlikely Makerere will beat UCU by a similarly big margin to have a chance of gaining first place, any win would be a huge confidence boost.

All things considered, though, the UCU teams are likely to leave Makerere with top seeds locked up, leaving Makerere to settle for the next best thing. Ndejje’s women and women have won their respective groups to equally secure top seeding for the postseason.
