There are different awards that have been organized in the social and cultural sphere of Uganda.

Most of them being music awards that work entirely with secular music and sometimes, bits of gospel music are chipped to make the difference.

This however leaves many talented gospel artists unrecognized and less celebrated yet they deserve such recognition.

The Victoria Gospel academy awards, which were launched yesterday at Emerald hotel, seek to recognize such artists.

According to the chairman of the organizing committee, Nicholas Nyombi, the awards seek to recognize musicians with inspirational and motivational music through awarding them.

He added the nomination was done at all levels of the selected artists.

Those who felt their music was good and inspirational were given centres to drop their music and the others were selected through suggestions and recommendations from a Momo Centre for talent, a group of adroit and musicians.

“All the music that is selected for nomination in the various categories has been derived from all levels as our group has been moving around the whole country in such for such musicians that are helping the society through music.

We have however chosen the finest music in all of the categories for nomination after identifying that not all society changing music is good to the ear.”

Nyombi said before adding that they are also focusing on creativity endeavors on every piece of music.

This however is a comeback for the awards as due to financial and management challenges, they were last held in 2008.
We just hope they live up to the expectations they have evoked.
