Parliament’s appointment committee has approved the reappointment of the Commissioner General of Prisons Dr. Johnson Byabashaija and his deputy James Mwanje.
This follows President Yoweri Museveni’s renomination of the two top prisons chiefs last month. Byabashaija has been Commissioner General since 2009 and his contract was due to expire in May.
Sources that attended the closed meeting chaired by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga said members were concerned about the recruitment process and congestion in prisons.
“They responded very well to our issues and the committee found no problem with them,” a source from the committee said.
Talking to Journalists after the meeting, Byabashaija complained about the delay of the Private- Public partnership which he said had affected the development of Prisons land for example Kirinya
